Obituary for William “Cadillac Jack” Choate
William Hyde Choate Jr., known affectionately to his listeners as “Cadillac Jack,” passed away on April 17, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 51. A beloved radio personality, William left an indelible mark on the Atlanta community through his 26-year tenure at WKHX (Kicks 101.5) and later at WEKS (92.5 The Bear), captivating audiences with his warm, relatable voice and genuine connection to country music fans.
Born in Hickory, North Carolina, William graduated from Western Carolina University in 1992 before embarking on a remarkable radio career. Starting at Kicks 101.5 in 1993, he rose from evening shifts to become the station’s morning show host from 2006 to 2019. His on-air persona, “Cadillac Jack,” was bestowed upon him as a teenager by a Myrtle Beach radio programmer, a name that became synonymous with authenticity and community engagement. After his time at Kicks, he joined 92.5 The Bear, where he continued to share his passion for music and storytelling. William also co-hosted the podcast “My Second Act” with his wife, Donna, producing 400 episodes that offered listeners a glimpse into his life and resilience.
William faced personal challenges with courage, openly sharing his struggles with mental health and addiction. He completed intensive inpatient mental health assessments in 2024, demonstrating his commitment to healing. Despite health setbacks, including a heart attack in 2017 that required three stents, he remained dedicated to his craft and community, often giving generously to local causes.
William is preceded in death by his father, William Hyde Choate Sr. He is survived by his wife, Donna Choate; their three children, Olivia Grace, Charlotte Anne, and William Hyde Choate III; his sister, Julie Choate Fotheringham, and her husband, Chip; and an extended family who cherished his vibrant spirit. The Atlanta community mourns the loss of a true legend, extending heartfelt condolences to his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to mental health or addiction recovery organizations in William’s memory. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
